Virtue signaling is the act of doing something just to announce everyone how virtuous you are, in an attempt to obtain a moral superiority over everyone else. It’s something that i’ve seen since many years ago in some people i know, but in the recent years this attitude have been increasing, specially in the Socal justice warrior types. You can see people who critizices absolutely everything while trying to show they would never do such a thing, because they are so much more inteligent and virtuous than those who did it. They will call everything and everyone sexist, racist, or some other phobia just to show the world how much they are against those things. Yeah, we know you are, because almost everyone is, but we don’t try to announce it every 5 minutes.

This attitude has gotten quite the rise recently. A clear example was the Paris terrorist attacks. When it happened, many people changed their avatar for a french flag. This is not really something bad, it’s kinda a low level of virtue signaling that is understandable even if in most cases the intention is clearly not to really show support, but to announce that you are showing support (because eventualy changing your avatar does nothing), but it’s ok. The real sad case is all the people who sudenly began to critizice those who changed the flag, saying things like “oh, look, there was another terrorist attack in (insert 3rd world country) and you didn’t changed your avatar to their flag”. The people saying those things also never did change their avatars for those countries. They most probably didn’t even know about said problems in those countries before that day. They were just trying to announce to the world how moraly superior they are because they care for terrorist victims of all places and at all times, even if it’s a lie. They were just trying to make virtue signaling.

I have ended so fed up with seeing people in my social media do this recently, that i thought i would probably need at some point some kind of poster or meme making fun of a thread for being virtue signaling. Then i realized that i’m an artist and i can fucking do those things myself. So i did this. You are free to use it when you want to point out to someone that their are doing virtue signaling.

La señalización de la virtud (Virtue signaling) es el acto de hacer o decir algo solo con el objetivo de anunciar al mundo lo virtuoso que eres, en un intento de conseguir la superioridad moral sobre todos los demás. Es una actitud que he visto a lo largo de los años en algunas personas que conozco, pero en los ultimos años su uso ha aumentado enormemente, especialmente entre los Justicieros sociales. Podéis ver a gente que critica absolutamente todo mientras intentan mostrar que ellos nunca harían algo como eso, porque son mucho más inteligentes y virtuosos que aquellos que lo hicieron. Llaman a cualquier cosa y cualquier persona machistas, racistas, o cualquier otra fobia solo para mostrar al mundo cuanto están en contra de esas cosas. Sí, sabemos que lo estáis, porque practicamente todo el mundo lo está, pero el resto no lo anunciamos cada 5 minutos.

Esta actitud ha tenido un gran aumento recientemente. Un ejemplo claro fueron los atentados de Paris. Cuando ocurrieron, un montón de gente se cambió el avatar a una bandera de Francia. Esto realmente no es tan malo, es algo así como un nivel bajo de Señalización de virtud que es comprensible incluso si en muchos casos la intención no era realmente mostrar apoyo, sino anunciar que estas dando apoyo (porque al final cambiarte el avatar no ayuda absolutamente nada), pero esta relativamente correcto. Lo verdaderamente triste es toda la gente que de repente empezaron a criticar a quienes cambiaron su avatar, diciendo cosas del estilo “oh, mira, hubo otro atentado terrorista en (insertar pais del tercer mundo) y no cambiaste tu avatar a su bandera”. La gente diciendo esto tampoco nunca cambio sus avatares por esos paises, y probablemente ni siquiera se interesaron por esos incidentes y paises hasta ese día. Simplemente estaban intentando anunciar al mundo lo moralmente superiores que son porque se preocupan de las victimas de cualquier sitio y a todas horas, aunque sea mentira. Estaban haciendo señalización de la virtud.

He acabado tan cansado de ver a gente en mis redes sociales haciendo eso recientemente, por las chorradas más absurdas e irrelevantes, que pensé que en cierto punto necesitare un cartel o un meme que se burle de ello. Luego recorde que soy dibujante y lo puedo hacer yo. Así que hice esto. Podéis usarlo libremente para burlaros de ellos.
